It Is Illegal To Get Punched In Ontario

I’m baffled here.

Redneck student calls a Korean student a “fucking Chinese”, then slugs him. Korean student breaks redneck’s nose. Korean student is suspended, arrested and charged with assault. Redneck receives a tissue and is not arrested.

Okay, first problem. There are rednecks in Canada? Who knew?

Secondly, nevermind that the redneck wasn’t arrested. That’s bad enough, but not nearly as bad as the fact that his victim was . And suspended from school? What the hell?

The kid was slugged after trying to walk away and only then did he hit the other kid to make him back off. Why is he suspended after he defends himself? More importantly, why the hell was he arrested? The kid was defending himself. He even pulled the punch.

More Proof That DRM Is Pointless

April 29, 2009 at 11:03 PM (Uncategorized)

Amongst the rubbish propaganda spewed out daily by the entertainment mafiaa is the notion that digital content must be protected by digital restrictions management (DRM). If you don’t use DRM, so many people will pirate your work that you’ll barely make enough sales to cover the cost of production. Or so they seem to believe.

It’s a good thing reality doesn’t work that way. Out here in the real world, DRM does not hinder piracy. The only people who encounter DRM are the people who buy the content. After the DRM is defeated and the content lands on pirate warez servers (and this always happens. Always), the DRM has been removed or disabled.

Out here in the real world, even if the DRM worked as advertised and prevented all attempts at making unauthorized copies, it still would not matter. The people who download pirated entertainment won’t buy it if they can’t download it. They will simply download something else.

In other words, it doesn’t matter if people pirate the content. Those people weren’t going to buy it anyway.

The market has just proven this.

Facepalm Moment

April 29, 2009 at 6:31 AM (Uncategorized)

When making coffee, it is generally a good idea to put the pot on the burner once you’ve turned it on.

As opposed to leaving the damn thing in the sink while coffee flows across the counter.

I totally knew that.

Violent Acres

April 29, 2009 at 12:46 AM (Uncategorized)

If you’ve never read Violent Acres, you’ve missed out on one of the most entertaining blogs (yes, I called it a blog) ever created.

At the risk of sounding like a cliched movie review, this site truly is an emotional roller coaster. One entry might leave you shaking your head in sorrowful contemplation of the depths of human evil. The very next one will have you spraying coffee around the room in laughter.

And there are a few entries that, after you’ve read them, you’re gonna need to just stand up and breathe deeply for a minute.

If you like raw, edgy wit, you are going to love Violent Acres. If you are fat, lazy or just generally stupid and easily offended, read it anyway. You need to toughen the fuck up.

I’d start with some of the Most Popular Posts first. If you like what you see, I’d go all the way back to the first archives and read the whole thing cover to cover. Be warned that the first few entries may not make any sense, because they are parodies of other sites.

There is also a catchphrase contest. You create a phrase for her site and, if she likes it, that becomes her site’s catchphrase and your site is linked in return. I don’t know if that is still active, but if so, here is my entry: The little devil sitting on your shoulder… Grinning.

I think that’s a perfect description.

You Can’t Kill People In The Library

Pop Quiz

Q: You are driving down an aisle of cars in a parking lot. One car is stopped in the middle of the aisle with its turn signal blinking. It is near another car, in a slot, that has its reverse lights lit up. What does this mean?

Unless you’re a complete moron, you know the answer to that. One day, when I was 17 or 18 years old, some idiotic soccer mom apparently didn’t get the memo on that.

How I Scored A Date With A Video Clerk

April 25, 2009 at 4:08 PM (Uncategorized)

Clerk (speaking to the idiot in front of me at the register): Hello. Did you find what you were looking for?
Idiot: Not really. This will work I guess (hands her the boxes)
Clerk: Oh… Well I’m sorry to hear that. Was there a particular movie you wanted that you couldn’t find?
Idiot: The selection at this place just sucks
Clerk: …
