Galactic Civilizations II Scenario File – Total War

This is a scenario file for Stardock’s Galactic Civilizations II. It works with the original release version but probably not with either of the expansions (without editing at least).

In this scenario, all major powers are permanently at war with all other major powers. Peace treaties, trade agreements and alliances between the major powers are impossible. You can interact with minor powers normally.

[Instructions]

Paste the following into a text editor (such as Notepad) and save the file with the name TotalWar.GC2Scenario (some text editors may ignore your commands and incorrectly add .txt to the end of the file name. Rename the file if that happens).

Save the file in the following directory: Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\Mods\Default\Data\Scenarios. If you are already using a different mods directory, feel free to use that instead.

In the game options, check the Use Mods option (you will need to disable that option again before playing a multiverse game).

[Notes]

1) The United Planets decision to end all wars brings the permanent state of war to an end and turns this scenario into a normal game. This is a problem that cannot be corrected with a scenario file. Always make a save point just before UP meetings and reload if that happens. You also could just leave the UP but that will leave you unable to trade with the minor powers.

2) If technology trading and minor races are both enabled, the minor powers should be able to declare and wage effective war against each other and against the major powers. They may also be capable of colonizing planets (this doesn’t always work).

3) The victory movie after a successful game doesn’t always work (and I have no idea why not). If you installed Galactic Civilizations II in a non-default location, you will need to edit the VictoryScenePath line appropriately.

4) Every race starts with 15,000bc instead of 5,000. Believe me, you’ll need it.

5) To include the Dread Lords in the war, find the section named [ACTIVE] and change Dreadlords=0 to Dreadlords=1.

6) You will be Human in this scenario. To play as a different race, change the number in this line: PlayerRace=0.
